Welcome to Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society
Melbourne's Top Blues Club


The MBAS is a non-profit blues club based in Melbourne, whose mission is to bring together blues enthusiasts and blues artists, and also encourage budding musicians.  We offer a range of activities such as blues jam nights, fundraising gigs & events, music awards, blues contests, and a Youth In Blues Project. 

We also provide lots of blues-related information on blues gigs & events around Melbourne, blues artists, music venues around Victoria, blues cd reviews, and a Blues Community Forum to network blues enthusiasts and musicians together.

"Old blues grows new roots" ... hailing from Victoria's south west coast, Tom Richardson is the winner of the 2004/2005 Australian Busking Championships and the 2007 Young Performer of the Year at the Apollo Bay Music Festival. It's easy to see why - he combines his furious slide guitar and vocal work with the spirit of a born entertainer, making a one-man show that's just gotta be seen, or at least heard.

MBAS Press Release June 2009

New Office Bearers
The MBAS is pleased to announce a change in office bearers.
Gary Jones is now the acting President and
Jimmy Rowe the acting Vice President.
After some 10 years as President, Sonia Meggs decided to have a well earned break and handed over the President's position to Vice President Graeme Newman in March.
Gary Jones, as Event Co-ordinator then took over the Vice President's position in an acting capacity.
Due to a health condition, Graeme has now decided to resign from the role of President and from the committee. Untill the annual elections in August, office bearers will act in their roles, Gary Jones as acting President and former general committee member Jimmy Rowe as acting Vice President.



MBAS Recognises & Assists Blues Talent...

Blues Jam Nights are hosted weekly by MBAS, offering local up & coming as well as established blues artists the chance to gain recognition by playing in front of an audience, whilst also offering musicians the chance to network.

MBAS Blues Performer of The Year sends the best possible representatives to participate in the IBC (International Blues Challenge) held in Memphis U.S.A.

MBAS Victorian/Tasmanian Blues Music Awards
are held each year for blues artists who have a commercial CD released between 30th June the previous year and the 1st July in the present year.

MBAS Youth In Blues Project is for youth 25 years and under, who are already playing blues or who are interested in receiving help in furthering their music career.
