What is the Youth In Blues Project?
This project offers the youth somewhere to show their talent, and
in the end to perpetuate blues. MBAS has promoted quite a few youth
bands/acts into the festival arena. What does
the Project offer Youth?
It offers stage experience, confidence in playing to audiences,
and the opportunity of obtaining music teachers, as well as (if
they are good enough) playing festivals and paying gigs.

Youth In Blues Program
YOUTH
IN BLUES SHOWCASE
During the Session
2, if you have not yet formed a band with other
youth in blues musicians, the MBAS committee members
will help you do so. Here are the rules for the
showcase:
- You can participate in
the showcase as a solo act, duo or a band but
participants must be registered in the ‘youth
in blues’ program and attend all the sessions.
- Acts will be required
to perform a 20 minute set and any style of blues
music can be played/sung.
- There will be a 10 minute
changeover for each act so as soon as your act
is called you will need to set up as quickly as
possible.
The acts will be judged by
people from the industry and the following criteria
will be judged on for each act: Showmanship, Talent,
Dress and Blues Content.
The Prizes:
- The highest scoring act
at the showcase will perform at two Australian
festivals, and will be offered a paid gig at The
British Crown Hotel.
- As the act will be representing
MBAS and acting as ambassadors for young blues
musicians across the country at festivals, the
act will have to agree to commit to regular rehearsals.
- The act will also have
to host an MBAS jam night so that the committee
can monitor the act's improvement.
- MBAS Committee members
will be offering guidance, support and any advice
needed in relation to festival performances.
- Additional prizes, offered
by our sponsors, will also be awarded, and include
vocal and guitar lessons, guitar cleaning kits
and recording time. These additional prizes will
be awarded by the MBAS Committee on the night
on an individual merit basis.
WHAT
HAPPENS ONCE THIS PROGRAM ENDS?

on the best way to support our youth in blues participants
