The DetonatorsBLUES JAM NIGHT

Feature act: THE DETONATORS

THE DETONATORS celebrating over 25 years together as a band, are one of the hottest mainstays of our local blues scene, and a hugely popular returning feature act at MBAS. This year brings the release of their long-awaited, hot-off-the-press book “Faded Out Glory Boys” which will be available for purchase on the night. The publication is an amusing collection of contributions and shared anectotes with pictures covering half a lifetime on the road with The Dets!

Always based in Melbourne, this hard-working quartet have never been afraid to hit the road, haul some kilometres and rack up a heap of gigs. The band has a finely honed array of original blues-based songs, and a stage show that only comes from years of gigging pubs, clubs and festivals. The Detonators, through their relentless gigging and touring both locally and overseas have seen them become an in-demand niche act – there is no other band like The Detonators, and it’s hard to find a weekend that they aren't plying their self-penned bluesy songs and entertaining audiences.

Their original music, to which all members contribute, is best described as a lethal combination of old-school bar room blues and early rock n roll. The band features bespectacled mad man Rockbottom James out front on vocals and electric harmonica, Paulie Bignell on hollow body guitar, Doghouse Dave on double bass and Johnny T on sticks and skins duty. With six CDs in their arsenal, The Detonators have had their music on the film "Charlie and Boots" as well as the Australian TV series “ Underbelly" and "Bondi Rescue" as well as American TV series "De Grassi High". Cold Chisel have labelled The Detonators as one of their favourite bands and have used The Detonators as support act at their sold out Rod Laver arena gigs as well as a Day on the Green at Rochefords VIC and A Day By The C in SA.
