Feature act: IAN COLLARD

IAN COLLARD hardly needs introduction to Blues audiences – a celebrated multi-award winning career culminated in recent recognition as Blues Music Victoria's 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee. Known for his character-filled, strong, driving harp playing and fervent vocal style, the recognisable frontman of the iconic Aria winning trio Collard Greens and Gravy has been playing Blues in Australia for over 35 years. Ian’s career has always been as a musician performing Blues music and his passion for this music is obvious when you listen to him perform. In that time, he has amassed more awards than any other Blues musician in Australia.

Ian’s commitment and skill as a vocalist, harmonica player, guitarist and songwriter has been well documented and recognised over the years. Along with his work with Collard Greens and Gravy over their 28 year career, Ian has also performed as a solo artist, and with his other band Three Kings. For the last 17 years he has also been the harmonica player for long running Sydney based Blues band the Backsliders.

Ian has entered the MBAS Blues Challenge Blues Performer of the Year competition 4 times over the years, and been the local winner, sent to represent at the IBC in Memphis on all occasions – including twice with Collard Greens and Gravy and once with Three Kings. Ian was the international winner at the IBC in Memphis in the Solo/Duo division the first time that competition category was held.
