ISEULA – this Melbourne-based honey-toned vocalist and songwriter has performed at some of Australia’s biggest Blues music festivals and industry events, performed overseas in New Zealand and the US, released a chart topping album on The Australian Blues and Roots charts, and collected a swag of highly coveted awards.
Known as the front woman for Blues band Blue Eyes Cry, Iseula teamed with guitarist Nathan Brett to see the band achieve two Chain Awards (Nation-wide Blues Music Award) in 2014 for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best New Artist’. Iseula also received ‘Female Artist of the Year’ at the VIC/TAS Music Awards in 2013, and the self-penned ‘Whats a Girl to Do’ received an honourable mention in the 2013 International Songwriting Competition in Nashville TN, USA. Along with awards, recognition and worldwide radio play, Blue Eyes Cry debut album ‘Sleepin’ Alone’ released in 2013 went to #1 on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts for two consecutive months and stayed within the top 25 for over a year.
In 2016, Iseula took her first trip to the United States, visiting Chicago, Austin, TX and New Orleans. It was in New Orleans where she discovered the roots of all her musical inspirations, the styles and sounds she grew up listening to and the genres of jazz, soul and gospel that helped mould her sound.
In more recent times, Iseula has been working as a solo artist and collaborating with other musicians, including as a duo with Bluesman Wayne Jury. Tonight at the MBAS House of Blues, Iseula leads a trio with Stella Anning (guitar/b.vocals) and Ollie Rolfe (keys/b.vocals) to perform her own brand of soulful original material.
