House of Blues - Tues May 14th

DUOLIANBLUES JAM NIGHT

Feature act: DUOLIAN

DUOLIAN play dead-folk’s music. A music project by-product inspired by the abandoned Wattle Gully Mine landmark in central Victoria, Duolian emerged with the teaming of local musicians Skip Sail and Sean McConnell, dragging up forgotten songs, dusty and derelict.

SKIP SAIL, steeped in traditional acoustic blues styles, recreates the sounds of Charley Patton, Blind Willie Johnson and Fred McDowell, with a genuine respect and skill. Armed with an array of vintage Gibsons, Nationals and baritone guitars, a show with Skip Sail is the closest you’ll get to visiting a museum of the blues, outside of Memphis.

SEAN McCONNELL (of White Lightning fame) respectfully bastardises these tunes with electrified slide, harmonica and effect-driven nonsense. At the MBAS, they’ll be performing, and duly kept in check, with special guest – the inimitable SHORTY on drums (of Opelousas, Dan and Shorty, Collard Greens & Gravy fame), known and loved by many for his unique, swamp drumming and percussion style. Duolian present a unique debut show at MBAS – one not to be missed!
