Feature act: THE VANGUARDS TRIO

THE VANGUARDS TRIO continue to challenge the Blues status quo with artful musicianship and progressive styling as Melbourne’s own Roots Fusion pioneers.  The trio combines forces of three top musician performers, each with their individual profiles and accomplishments in the Blues and Roots live music scene.

DALE LINDREA’s musical journey includes tap dancing at age 8, trombone at 15, bass guitar at 19, tenor guitar at 30, some schooling, three US pilgrimages and 4000+ gigs along the way. As bassist/vocalist he has developed his own contemporary Blues personae infused with Jazz and Rock influences. Dale is also much sought-after as a sideman with various top tier Roots acts including Collard Greens & Gravy, Benny Peters & The Mistreaters and The Pearly Shells.

DAVE BIRTWELL’s award winning performances encompass the raw Delta styles to the sophisticate post-war urban sounds. As a much admired Blues guitar supremo, he has featured in such popular Melbourne groups as The Chris Wilson Band and Rod Paine’s Fulltime Lovers.

University of Tasmania alumni – drummer/percussionist, LIAM O’LEARY, performs in varied genres including Jazz, Blues and Rock. As such he’s a welcome addition to The Vanguards. Pete Cornelius, Ian Collard and Benny Peters are just some of the other top bandleaders who call upon Liam’s versatile musicality.
