BLUES JAM NIGHTDEBI CANDLISH originally hails from Greensboro in the foothills of North Carolina USA, where as a child she was immersed in music, surrounded by the influence of Delta and Piedmont Blues. Vocalist/guitarist Debi found her way to Australia in the early 1990’s and spent her first years in Melbourne, playing her Blues and Gospel show throughout Victoria’s festival circuit. Her album “Ain't got the Blues" won the MBAS VICTAS Blues Award for Best Debut Album, Best Female Vocalist – and tied for Best Album with Collard Greens and Gravy! After calling Australia home, Debi based herself in the warmer climes of FNQ, but still enjoys bringing her own style of Blues back to Melbourne when she can. She performs a wide range of soulful stories of traditional Blues and Roots tunes from "Walkin’ Blues and Rollin’ and Tumblin’", to award-winning originals and blow-your-hair-back stomping sliding swamp. ‘Delta’ Debi Candlish makes a popular return appearance at MBAS, performing her set with special guests, her Melbourne-based "Po’ Boys" – ANTHONY ’SHORTY’ SHORTTE on drums, and NICK THORPE on bass.
