Feature act: DAMON SMITH TRIO

DAMON SMITH is a Melbourne-based pianist and songwriter who has built a reputation as one of Australia’s most engaging blues and roots performers, combining powerful New Orleans-style piano with storytelling, humour, and a deep respect for the traditions that shaped the music. In 2026 Damon proudly represented the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society in Memphis USA at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) – one of the most prestigious blues competitions in the world. Performing on the legendary Beale Street stages, Damon progressed through to the Semi-Finals and brought his high-energy piano style to an international audience of blues fans, musicians, and industry figures. 

Back in Australia, Damon continues to tour widely, performing at festivals, theatres, and blues venues around the country. His shows blend blues, boogie-woogie, early rock and roll, and original songs with the kind of spontaneous storytelling that makes every performance unique. A Music Victoria Award winner, Damon has released multiple records and is known for performances which move effortlessly between explosive piano, soulful vocals, and moments of humour that keep audiences leaning forward. Alongside his performing career, Damon is also a filmmaker and storyteller. His documentary Mental As Everything explored music and mental health, and he is currently developing a new film examining where music comes from and how artists keep creating in a changing world. 

Most commonly performing live as a solo act, Damon will appearing be in trio band formation at the MBAS House of Blues, fronting rhythm section TRENT McKENZIE (Bass) and PHIL COLLINGS (drums).
