Feature act: IAN COLLARD 

IAN COLLARD has been playing and performing blues for over 35 years. In that time, he has amassed more awards than any other blues musician in Australia, including being the recipient an ARIA award in 2001 with his band Collard Greens and Gravy, for best blues album – “More Gravy!". In that same year, the band travelled to Memphis USA, where they represented MBAS at the International Blues Challenge, and were placed 2nd – a feat unparalleled by any other Australian band. The band’s 3rd album release “Silver Bird” a recording made entirely of songs penned by Ian, was also the recipient of the Best Independent Blues Album at the IBC in Memphis – also a first for an Australian act. The band’s last release “Luedella” was recipient of the 2018 Music Victoria award for Best Blues Album, adding to the impressive array of awards amassed by the band, unparallelled by any other blues band in the country. 

 Ian’s passion and skill as a vocalist, harmonica player, guitarist and songwriter has been well documented over the years. Winner of the Australian Harmonica Award in Tamworth, and performing alongside with many music industry greats, as well as music performances for the Australian Ballet, Ian’s harp playing also featured on Baz Luhrmann's, international number 1, and Top 10 hit in Europe “Everybody is Free to Wear Sunscreen“.

 Along with his work with Collard Greens and Gravy spanning over 28 years, Ian has performed as a solo artist and with his other award-winning band Three Kings. For the last 17 years he has been the harmonica player for long-running Sydney-based blues band The Backsliders. Ian has entered the MBAS Blues Challenge Performer of the Year competition four times and been the winner on all occasions, including twice with Collard Greens and Gravy once with Three Kings, and winner as a solo artist the first time the competition was held.
